The simplest explanation is that zines are less professional magazines. The community very anti-establishment, zine topics can range from informational to personal to fandom!
Recently, I started getting interested in making my own zines! While I haven't finished any of my zines yet, I have plans for several! The first few will be perzines, or personal zines. The zine I'm currently working on is on my eating disorder, ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). I also plan to make one on my autistic experience, one on my social anxiety, one on my dermatillomania, and one on my trichotillomania. Once I finish those, I might make zines about my ocs!
At the moment, I'm not planning on selling them or sharing physical versions with people outside my friends and family. However! I am planning on sharing them on this website, and possibly the internet archive as well.
The person who's work inspired me to make zines in the first place is @insectren on instagram's post on their zine Curious Hands. I had already been toying with the idea of sharing my experience with my neurodivergence, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to do it. So when I saw his post on my feed, it felt like I was hit by lightning. ...like inspiration lightning... you know what I mean.
@brattyxbre on youtube helped me figure out some details as well as calmed my anxiety at starting something I wasn't sure how to do.
When I finish making my first zine, a link to it's page will be here!
